The Rhythm of a Provençal Summer
Memories.
For me, the word "holiday" has always had a specific scent: the salty Mediterranean air mixing with the warm sun-baked stone of a family house.
My childhood summers on the Riviera were defined by a gentle, familiar rhythm. We began our days early, down by the sea, where the sound of the water was the only clock we followed. I remember the taste of warm beignets on the sand, the sun lingering on our skin, and the salt that never quite washed away.
Back at the house, life happened on the terrace. There was a specific, beautiful clutter to those days: our bathing suits hanging in the breeze to dry, colorful paréos tossed over chairs, and the baskets, always the baskets, waiting patiently in the corner, ready for the next stroll.
My mother kept a basket by her side all summer long, elegant yet so simple. It was the true vessel of our summer life, holding everything from morning market treasures and a well-loved book to the quiet promise of an afternoon wander through the Old Town.

Today, I still hold onto that rhythm. It is a reminder that the best things in life are never rushed. They are gathered slowly, like ingredients for a meal or moments in a day, and carried with you in a handwoven basket.
Memories of the sun, the sand, the sea, and the people I loved dearly. The bare essentials.
Let’s be honest: the ultimate Riviera survival kit doesn’t require an instruction manual. It just requires a woven basket heavy with crisp market greens, still-warm artisan bread, and juicy summer fruits. Add a morning coffee paired with a ridiculously good book on a terrace, or a stolen afternoon by the sea with just a towel, a fluttering pareo, and absolutely nowhere else to be. Essentials only, darling! Summer is way too short to pack light on joy!

Le Palais d'Osier is a true piece of Old Nice heritage. Beyond the gorgeous wicker baskets and totes that spill out onto the street perfect for the markets, the beach, or travels, this historic spot is also a traditional workshop keeping the art of “cannage” and chair seating alive. A chic, timeless slice of Riviera tradition for day or night!
